BDFI: Berkeley Digital Film Institute
Overview

Berkeley Digital is a 16 month, intensive and immersive, mentor-driven program in Producing and Directing for Motion Pictures.

There are 3 start dates per year: January, May, and September.

The program prepares students to become Directors and Producers of Narrative Fiction Feature Films, Episodic Television, Music Videos, Commercials, and Web Episodic content, and focuses on the development of the leadership skills required to manage and lead, in all forms of fiction-based content, going forward.

The program is run like a graduate school, with 4 semesters of 15 weeks each, with 2 week breaks between semesters.

Class size is limited to 13 students in every semester.

During these 4 semesters, students write, direct and/or produce between 4 and 10 films of their choice, with increasing complexity, degree of difficulty, and creative sophistication.

Those projects are largely narrative fiction, music videos, commercials and (increasingly) web- based episodic content. The projects depend on the individual students' interests, and it is not unusual for students to also shoot documentaries, public service announcements, and client work while they are attending Berkeley Digital.

For example, there have been more that fifty music videos produced at BDFI in the past four years, many of which have appeared on MTV, MTV2, BET and VH1.
