Sound Class with David Bergad

When I heard that Mark Berger was not going to be able to make it to sound class yesterday I was a little upset. Mark has done a good job of exciting and teaching us one of the most neglected aspects of film, sound. However, luckily for us David Bergad was able to fill in. I’ve meet David several times before in this building, where he works on the Seventh Floor with all the big players at the SZMC. I always knew him to be very professional, humorous, and down to earth but I had no idea the level of knowledge of sound he possessed. He started out by showing us his resume http://imdb.com/name/nm0073933/ , it was quite impressive. He then wasted no time jumping into instruction about the different jobs in the sound department. His level of detail and understanding really helped in his explanation of each role. He talked to us about mixing and sound recording. He showed us examples of some of the work he has done and gave us the background story behind the sound in each of the movies he displayed. By far this had been one of the best lectures covering some many topics in just three hours. I hope he comes back to teach us again. There is really so much more to learn about sound. After all as David says it’s 50% of the movie.

Thanks so much for the positive feedback! I, too, enjoyed being a guest in your class. You’re all on your way to becoming successes in your own right! I look forward to being involved in your projects as an adviser, sometime soon.
