Narrative Directing Track

The majority of BDFI students (approximately 80%) pursue the Narrative Fiction Directing Track.

The directing track consists of 4 semesters of 5 classes each semester.

During these 4 semesters, students write, direct and/or produce between 4 and 10 films of their choice, with increasing complexity, degree of difficulty, and creative sophistication.

Those projects are largely narrative fiction, music videos, commercials and (increasingly) web- based episodic content.

The projects depend on the individual students' interests, and it is not unusual for students to also shoot documentaries, public service announcements, and client work while they are attending Berkeley Digital.

Our primary focus is on the classic narrative feature, however our students have had significant success in other directorial majors, including opting for tracks in music video, documentary and web based episodic directing.

The purpose of the Berkeley Digital program is to let each director find their own voice, as well as find their own strengths as they develop their core competency.

Berkeley Digital has no preconceived notion of what a "director" should be, each student takes control of their own curriculum as they achieve clarity about their career path.
